On a remote system that I've been connecting to for several years, something has apparently changed and Goverlan is unable to start the remote control agent. That's my guess anyway. I'm currently using Goverlan v7.01.53.0720 and connecting to 27 other remote clients. My remote clients are a mix of XP SP3 and Windows 7. The problem client is XP SP3.

I'm currently able to connect to the client with Remote Desktop. And I've rebooted the system several times.

Please follow these troubleshooting steps and let me know the outcome.

  1. Using the command button in the upper right corner of Goverlan Remote Control, select Show --> Show Console Panel. Try to reconnect to the problem machine and observe the output and errors in the console panel. Post the results here.
  2. Verify that GovSRV.exe is running on the remote system.
  3. Try to reinstall the Goverlan Client on the target workstation.
  4. Verify that TCP port 21159 is listening on the target workstation. You can do this by using the command "netstat -ab" on the target system. Look for the GovSRV.exe and the line above it should read TCP 0.0.0.0:21159 Listening
  5. Please test connectivity from your workstation to the target workstation over port 21159. You can do this by using a telnet client. If you use windows telnet at the command prompt, use this command "telnet targethostname 21159" where targethostname is the target machines name. You should end up with a blinking cursor if the connection was established.
Thanks

1. When connecting to the problem client, nothing is output in the Console Panel.
2. GovSRV.exe is running on the remote client as well as GoverRMS.exe.
3. Please provide more information on how to install the Goverlan Client. This has always been done automatically when I connect and I haven't located a separate installer or command option within Goverlan to do this manually.
4. Netstat -ab returns indicate that TCP port 21159 is listening on the target workstation.
5. When using the telnet command, I get an immediate return. No blinking cursor.

Sorry for this taking so long to get back to you. I've been waiting for a message that my issue had a response waiting for me.

Dave.

dzempel,

Please post a screenshot of the exact error you are receiving.

Also open the Event Viewer on the target workstation and look for events where Goverlan is the source.
Please post any relevant information as well.

Thanks.

I'm not seeing any errors in Goverlan. It appears that the connection just freezes while connecting. From the event log on the target system, I'm finding some "Warning" level events. They all appear to be the same. I'm unable to privide you with an image due to our firewall and other restrictions. However, I can paste in the text below.

Is your account also a local admin on the target workstation?

Can you try uninstalling the agent from the Goverlan Console, then deleting the registry key mentioned below from the target workstations registry. Afterwards try re-installing the agent.

If you are using the Goverlan GPO template, run GPUpdate /force from the command prompt of the remote workstation.

Then try connecting and post the results.

Thanks.

Something has changed over the weekend on the system and I'm now able to connect. I'm not sure if there is any benefit to following the latest instructions. If there is, please let me know before I proceed.

Thanks.

The instructions just refer to getting a fresh copy of the agent and settings installed on the system.

If Goverlan is working for you, you can leave everything alone for now and try the instructions in case something happens again.

What is
Goverlan SureData Technology
Technology?

SUREDATA is a Real-Time & Database-Driven Query Engine that guarantees the most complete and accurate view of your environment.

System management solutions that are database-driven ensure data availability but may not be current. Real-time solutions are responsive and current but they can’t handle offline devices.

With GOVERLAN’s SURE-DATA Technology you don’t have to trade off accuracy for availability - the data is directly queried from the system in real-time, then registered into a database back-end. If a system is offline, GOVERLAN automatically pulls the information from the database.

SURE-DATA gives you the best of both worlds - accuracy and availability of information on every machine, online or offline.
