On my PC, I have Goverlan Admin v7 installed and the Central Server Control Interface. The DNS Record is configured and seems to work fine.

Now Everything is enable in my Central Server and I've configured some universal settings (ID 557). When I look at the "Current Activity" screen it shows ID 914. Why? (See Attachment).

Also my settings doesn't seems to be applied. Also My Activity Log File won't create.

The Universal Setting ID is used internally by the software and is a unique number which is subsequently incremented every time it is modified.

To test if this feature is working properly, run the Goverlan Central Server Installer on the client machine (your machine), and only install the 'Client Settings Tester Utility'.

Then run it and it will display the information as received by the GCS. It will show if a GCS was detected and the universal settings provided by the GCS.

Also, what do you mean by 'My Activity Log File' won't create?

In my GCS Universal settings, the ID is 557 now and when I run the Tester, it says that the ID is 188 and it doesn't show the same settings as the GCS? So I guess that something is wrong in my config.

My setting source is the right PC, but it says [* SETTINGS DISTRIBUTION FEATURE IS OFF * ]

As for the logs, the file will not create in the "Data File Path". When I click on View full log, it pops up "Failed to Open log file" - " The file log is empty or has not been created yet"

In the Utility, does it show the correct Central Server Information? Is the SRV Resolution Info and Central Server Found pointing to the right GCS Server?

The computer where the GCS is installed = lpadistd2314jb1
Current GCS Universal Set ID = 557

See test utility screen capture for comparaison (see attach)

Maybe we setup something wrong.

Ok, let's do a more thorough test:

Keep the Utility running on your machine and remote control the GCS (so that you can see both the client utility and the GCS UI at the same time).

  1. On the GCS, turn the Universal Settings and Auditing features OFF. Then select the Server Control tab and turn the GCS Off by pressing the Stop button.

Confirm by looking at the utility that the Central Server is still detected but that it couldn't be reached (by looking at the Last Update Status field), and seeing connection errors in the status window.

  2. Turn the GCS Server on again (by pressing on the start button) but leave the features OFF.

Confirm that the utility sees that the server is now reachable. It should show the Settings Distribution Features turned OFF.

Turn Activity Monitoring ON in the GCS.

  3. Turn the Settings Distribution Feature ON (you should hear Beep/Boop/Beep which indicates that the change was recorded by the server).

Select the Server Control tab and confirm by looking at the activity log that your machine has requested an update and received the new universal settings (check the ID).

Confirm by looking at the utility that a new settings set was received?
Let me know the results of each step. Please include as much information as you can as everything may help.

To further troubleshoot this, can you email to support@goverlan.com the content of the utility status window as well as the content of the GCS Activity Log?

Ok I've tested it and it didn't work and I'm pretty sure it's because I have Gv6, Gv7 and GCS installed on the same PC. So instead of pursuing with my "Do it all test PC", I've installed a clean version of the GCS on a computer that never had Goverlan installed. Now it shows the Same Set ID and it seams to work just fine.

Except that I have an issue with the remote controle User Authorisation Prompt and since I'm not sure if it's related to the Universal Settings or Remote control, I'll put it in this Post.

With Gv6 : If the "Request User Prompt" is activated, the user needs to approve the connection when logged in and live in is/her session, except for when the user is not logged in or Locked is session, then we have access without the approval

With Gv7 : If the "Request User Prompt" is activated, the user needs to approve the connection when logged in and live in is/her session, but if not logged in or Locked is session, the remote control won't let us access whitout user approval.

When I look at the "Remote Control Approval Process" it should let us connect.

I've tried changing the "If locked, cancel user promt" setting with GCS from Yes to No and it does change a thing.

From what I can see is even if the Activity Log shows that my remote PC (192.168.146.121) got the update, the registry policies don't change.

See attachments for logs and registry keys info

What is
Goverlan SureData Technology
Technology?

SUREDATA is a Real-Time & Database-Driven Query Engine that guarantees the most complete and accurate view of your environment.

System management solutions that are database-driven ensure data availability but may not be current. Real-time solutions are responsive and current but they can’t handle offline devices.

With GOVERLAN’s SURE-DATA Technology you don’t have to trade off accuracy for availability - the data is directly queried from the system in real-time, then registered into a database back-end. If a system is offline, GOVERLAN automatically pulls the information from the database.

SURE-DATA gives you the best of both worlds - accuracy and availability of information on every machine, online or offline.
